ENGLISH IDIOMS - eye, part 1

Deszczowy weekend to dobry czas na pracę. Nie kuszą spacery i wyjścia. Dziś pierwsza część idiomów ze słowem EYE, ale niestety nie wiem ile ich będzie. Takich idiomów jest bardzo, ale to bardzo dużo. 
Zaczynamy. :)    

as far as the eye can/could see - jak okiem sięgnąć
[for a ​long ​distance until something is so ​far away and ​small it cannot be ​seen any more]

     There were no houses or other traces of human existence. As fas as the eye could see, we were surrounded by swamps.    

     Nie było tam żadnych domów ani innych śladów ludzkiej egzystencji. Jak okiem sięgnąć otaczały nas bagna.      

bags under someone's eyes - worki pod oczami; być bardzo zmęczonym i niewyspanym  
[dark ​circles, sometimes with ​loose or ​swollen ​skin, under the ​eyes, usually as a ​result of being ​tired or ​ill]

     
     I'd been up late the ​night before, and I had ​huge ​bags under my ​eyes.
     Byłam do późna noc wcześniej i miałam ogromne wory pod oczami.    



beauty is in the eye of the beholder- piękno jest rzeczą względną; o gustach się nie dyskutuje    

[used to ​express the ​fact that not all ​people have the same ​opinions about what is ​attractive]

     I don't know what he sees in that girl but after all beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 

     Nie wiem, co on widzi w tej dziewczynie, ale ostatecznie piękno jest rzeczą względną.   

to keep an eye on somebody/something - mieć kogoś/coś na oku
[to watch someone or something; to monitor someone or something closely; to watch or give your attention to someone or something]

     The mother sat on the edge of the sandbox, keeping an eye on her sons as they played.

     Matka siedziała na brzegu piaskownicy mając na oku swoich synów grających. 

to have an eye for something - mieć oko do czegoś; być w czymś dobry
[to be good at noticing a particular type of thing]

     Hannah has an eye for detail and she will definitely make a good editor. 

     Hanna ma oko do szczegółów  na pewno będzie z niej dobra redaktorka.   


to have eyes in the back of someone's head - mieć oczy dookoła głowy

[to seem to be able to sense what is going on behind or outside of one's field of vision]

     My teacher seems to have eyes in the back of her head. She watches us very carefully.  

     Moja nauczycielka wydaje się mieć oczy dookoła głowy. patrzy na nas bardzo uważnie.

to keep someone's eyes open - mieć oczy otwarte

[to cause someone, including oneself, to become aware of someone or something]

     Keep your eyes open and your wits about you.   

     Miej oczy szeroko otwarte i używaj głowy.
